In Macedonia there are a lot of special places with historical and cultural meanings. In every town in Macedonia there is some place which has it’s meaning. But also there are towns which has left only their towns: Stoby and Heraclea- Bitola. One of the most visited places are the churches: St. Sophia – Ohrid, monastery St. Jovan Bigorski – Debar, St. Spas – Skopje. The fortresses Kale – Skopje, the fortresses of Samuil – Ohrid. In Macedonia there are a lot of artificial lakes which attracts a lot of attention: Treska, Matka, for the time of the hot summer days as for the cold winter days. Also there are natural lakes like: the lake of Ohrid, the lake of Dojran and the lake of Prespa from witch the biggest meaning has the lake of Ohrid. I will say something about it Ohrid lake, stradding the mountainous border between the south-western region of the Macedonia and eastern Albania. The deepest (286 m) lake of the Balkan Peninsula it is drained to the north by the Drim River. Underground Spring feed the lake, which is also connected by the setting and good beaches and fishing, as well as the interesting medieval ruins in the towns on it shores, make Lake Ohrid a popular resort centre.

Special places
In Macedonia there are a lot of specific places which attract the attention of many people from our country and from abroad.
Some of the most significant places are Heraclea in Bitola, Stobi at Gratsko, Scupi in Skopje. They are historical places from our past.
But for me the most important place is Ohrid. A town by the Ohrid Lake and hometown of the Samoil fortress. That's why this town is visited by a lot of tourists, but I think the pupils should visited too, in order to learn a lot more about their history, who they are and where they come from.

THE RURAL ARCHITECTURE in macedonia,as a part of the material cultural
heritage,developed through cenutries under the influence of various natural,
social and economic factors , present in this part of the balkan.In the
creative sense and by interweavingall aestetic ,traditional and
local factors , it reached its climax in the XIX century,
as a result of the skillfulness and work of macedonian builders,
widely knowning the entire balkan and beyond.
The origin of constructions in this area goes far into the past
centuries.Archeological reserches testify that there were constructions
made of ramshackle materials,the form of which couldbe noticed in the
subsequent periods.Such constructions were characterized by liht
buildings with dug-in basements and one room on the floor,
what clearly demonstrates the rich architecture tradition
in this region.
Under the influence of social and economic changes,
their present appearence was formed in the XVII century.The
main factors that influenced the creation of architectonic
form amd appearence of buldings are of Oriental - easteren
origin,with the ottoman empire influence dominating,which
was superiorin this area,and their correlation with local
ethnic traditional conditions.

I love my country very much,just like everyone who likes his country.My
country is Macedonia and she is very small country rich with people and love.
When you will came in Macedonia you will faind something for
everyone.Macedonia has very historical and culture places.For they who likes
summer,Macedonia has three lakes and the most famous of them is in Ohrid.That
lake is famoused by his beauty and the chirchs who are in that town.For winter
sports and fun Macedonia has very beautifull mountains which you can visit any
time.
Historical past of Macedonia lived trags who are leading to it.The most
famoused are rests from the oldest towns Heraclea and Stobi.Also the most
famoust is Krushevo in which are the most beautifull leads from the past.
You can use the days to have rest or to walk watching the beauty of
Macedonia.For going out at nights you can visit great restorants and clubs in
which you can hear great music,danse and have fun.
The most important treasure in Macedonia are peoples who live in it and
who are greit friends whit everyone and like to have fun.
Becose all of that I love my country.Everyone who want to see something
new and good can visit my country,Macedonia.
Ohrid,city which testefise about historical past of one nation which survive all this years, and like stamp of that time are many convents, churchs and monuments.
When ever you visit the old part of Ohrid, you are mention about old craftsmen and specifiks constuctions on the old houses which antil this day keeps there own figure.
Ohrid`s beauty is recompense with Ohrid Lake which introduse pearl between lakes on the Balkan.
For that,when ever you came in Macedonia, don`t forget to visit Ohrid, city with anpresible waliy.

Legend of the Settlement and Monastery Lisa
In one of the battles between Macedonian Army and Vyzantines, when one part of the Macedonian army weakened, Samoil willing to give an advice to his army went toward them but the enemy force spotted him and start to chase him. Riding on his horse he came to the coast of Prespa Lake. The only way to escape was to swim through the Lake. He catches the tail of his horse Lisa and together they succeed, but unfortunately the horse died. In its honor the Emperor build a big Settlement and called her Lisa, and after a while he build a Monastery with the same name.
Legend of the Prespa Lake
The Legend says that the name of the lake Prespa comes from the daughter of the king Samoil, Prespa. When the Byzantine prince came and asks the Prespa for she’s hand, she refuses him and says to him that she doesn’t want to marry the worsest enemy of she’s father.
But the prince determines to abduct Prespa to be his wife. Prespa unwilling to marry him starts to run. Tired and exhausted she approach to the lake coast. Determined not to marry him she jumped and drowned herself. Because of this event and in her’s honor this lake is called Prespa Lake.
Blinded Samoil army wanting to kneel in front of their Emperor starts to walk toward Prespa. When they arrive Samoil saw his army blinded kneeling in front of him, all in tears, disturbed and disappointed by the view, determine to build a settlement with the most beautiful houses where the soldiers can live the rest of their life damned to hear the music of the lake without seeing it.
Byzantines has called this settlement Asamati. The Greek meaning of this word is settlement of one eye people.
Macedonia is a country that is finds in the center odd the Balkan. Macedonia is small country, but has many wonderful places that the nature makes. In these places lives population that is proud that it lives in the beautiful environment. Very interesting
places are historical and cultural monuments, parks, fast rivers, monasteries, churches etc.
But the most visited places are three biggest likes in Macedonia. They are natural likes and paradise for eyes and spirit. Because of that, they attracted many tourists from the others countries.
The most beautiful, cleanest and famous like id Ohrid like. In this like lives special animal and plant world. Very specific is the sponge. In Ohrid there are many beaches, hotels, restaurants and everything that is necessary for a tourist town.
The second like in Macedonia is Prespa like. This like is placed in the Prespa, a region famous for production of apples.
The smallest like in Macedonia is Dojran like. Algae live in this like. They are very useful for health. Specific for Dojran like is catching of fishes in winter with birds called cormorant.

Hi,
I'm Jane Stojanoski from Skopje, Macedonia. I'm 16 and i'm a student at the Civil Construction School "Zdravko Cvetkovski" in Skopje.I work together with my proffesor Vesna Trpkovska. I prepaired an article about one macedonian town- Ohrid.
Ohrid is the most beautiful town in Macedonia. It was founded in the Roman Empire period as Lychnidos. There are many archeological sites in the centre of the town. In the 9th century it was the cultural and religious centre of the Balkan. In the 10th and
11th century it was the capital of the first slav Macedonian State under Empiror Samuil.
There are about 300 churches in Ohrid and it's surroundings. The most beautiful of all of them is the church of Holy Wisdom (Sveta Sofija), built in the 11th century. The icons of all of them are among the most precious in the world.
Also, Ohrid is famous for it's architecture. The houses are arranged like an amphitheatre on the hill, with narrow streets climbing up to the fortress of Samuil which dates from the 10th century.
But, Ohrid wouldn't be so beautiful if there wasn't the lake. Ohrid Lake is the oldest in Europe, and one of the oldest in the world. Its clear water is home of the endemic Ohrid trout, the most tasty macedonian speciality.
The most beautiful place along the lake shote is the monastery of St. Naum and the springs of the Crni Drim river, which are part of the Galichica National Park.

There are many places which are special for me. I want to visit the mountains, historical monuments, churches and monasteries. I admire to the beatuful nature and fresh air.
There are many places where I can find all these things , but especially for me is to see Pelister. On the southern part of the Republic of Macedonia between the Prespa valley on the west and the Pelagonia valley on the east is situated the Baba mountain
with its peak Pelister on altitude of 2601m.
Because of the natural beauties consisted of the Molica pine forests as a relic of tertiary flora, the granite masses that Pelister is built of, especially and its morphological relief especially the glacial relief of the alpine part of the mountain, in 1
948 Pelister was established the first National park by a special law in the Republic Macedonia, which is of great importance for the cultural history of the Macedonian people. The Molica pine is rightly called "Pelister's Beauty". Pelister is attractive
for me because of marvelous sceneries and cold springs. From Pelister I can see the whole town Bitola and his environment. But I want to tell something about the lakes on Pelister. There are the Big and the Small lake which are called "Pelister's eyes".
THE BIG AND THE SMALL LIKE ON PELISTER
Exclusively natural values of the Park and its nearness to Bitola contribute to make it ideal for development of winter and summer tourism. The filling being there, it's something special and I can't describe with words.

Ponikva – Recreational and Tourist center
In the East Macedonia, in the breasts of Osogovo Mountain, 1460 m. above sea level, is located the Sports – recreational and tourist center PONIKVA, place which is visited both in summer and in winter, (as well as in the others seasons), by a big number of people, who are lovers of mountain beauty and white sports. People visit the place from different places from Macedonia, but most of the tourists and weekenders are from Kocani, Shtip, Probishtip, Veles and Skopje.
You can arrive to Ponikva following on a good and modern road, whose length is 20 km. This road in the winter mounts (when the snowfall is even 1m.) is always clean and good for traveling.
But, before you leave Kocani and go to Ponikva, I suggest you met Kocani, my born town, which is worldwide famous for rise production. The inhabitants called it “The white gold of Kocani”. The town is located in a valley, dominated by the Osogovo and Plackovica Mountains, the fruitful field and also the river Kocani. It is Industrial and Economic center. It’s modern town with 32 000 inhabitants.
If you have already seen Kocani (I hope that you saw the pictures) I’m inviting you to go for a walk in Ponikva. The mountain region is 1000 m. above sea level. Here are the Lodge and the hunting reservation. The trophy quarry: deer, mouflon, wild pig, doe, rabbit, and spring quarry (birds) are the treasure of this reservation, which is a place for research for flora and fauna, and also rare species of fern.
In the sport-recreational and tourist center Ponikva, there are places like: the Children Resort with capacity of 200 beds, than, the hotels “Izgrev”, “Sharena Cheshma”, “Shampinjoni”, the Lodge, 2 resorts and about 100 cottages, bungalows and lodges, where the attendance in the whole year, is very big.
On the snow grounds in Ponikva, the young people compete in skiing, like Osogovo slalom and giant slalom. The ski path is kept for ski competitions for international character too.
Characteristically for the mountain's beauty lovers is that Ponikva and Osogovo Mountains are full of rich mountain trees, the most of oak and tumult, and also plants with low tree-trunk, and pastures. For the mountain flower's beauty there are a lot of flowers like: snowdrop, Klamath weed, and also lots of mountain tea. Many people and holyday makers visit and gather the fields of strawberries and raspberries because they are ecologically clean from clean environment.
For the mountaineering lovers there are some famous attractive places like: Ponikva-1460 m., Retki buki-1760 m., and Ruen - 2085 m. and also the people call it "Sultan tepe" (King's top).
Famous settlements in this region are: Jastebnik, Novo selo , Nebojani, Glavovica and also about ten resettled villages where a small number of people live, most of them are very old.
The wish to keep the family houses develops the mountain and village tourism. On Ponikva there are some places for breeding sheep and from their milk people make cheese. In the mountain villages the visitors will be invited to eat `bakardan`(famous traditional meal) and yogurt. From the drained plums and the other drained fruit the people prepare tea or as they call it `oshav`(stewed fruit).
WE HOPE THAT ONE DAY, PONIKVA WILL BECOME ONE OF THE BIGGEST WINTER AND SUMMER RESORTS OUR CONTRY!
